Barcode scanners

1D and 2D industrial barcode scanners specified against label type, range, and duty cycle.

At a pack bench or a retail counter, the fastest route to a reliable scan is often a dedicated device with no application of its own: one job, done thousands of times a shift, with nothing else competing for the screen. We specify 1D and 2D barcode scanners for capture-only work at pack benches, receiving docks, retail counters, and light-inventory stations.

The label decides more than the catalogue does. We check symbology and print quality, then working range—contact, standard, or high bay—form factor, interface, duty cycle, and drop requirement. The result may be a handheld, presentation scanner, or wearable trigger connected by USB or Bluetooth to a rugged handheld computer, a point-of-sale terminal, or a PC.

If your operator also runs a warehouse management system workflow on the device, a scanner will not carry the job and you need a rugged handheld. We will say which before the order, rather than after the pilot.

What surrounds the scanner

A dedicated scanner is capture hardware, so plan the fleet around it: cables or cradles, spare units for the benches that cannot stop, and the return path for a failed unit. Most dedicated scanners cannot be enrolled in mobile device management (MDM), which is one reason a mixed floor often pairs them with rugged handhelds that can be enrolled and reported on through fleet insights. Where the scanner sits inside a wider capture scope, start from automatic identification and data capture (AIDC).
